Whitebox Eatery

Hola, friends! How was your week? Mine went by super quick! Even though it was a pretty good week, I’m definitely glad it’s Friday, and I’m absolutely thrilled that I’m off work on Monday for Labor Day!

My latest foodie adventure brought me to Whitebox Eatery. It’s located in Clayton, and even though I don’t venture that way too often, when I do, I’m usually not disappointed.

I came with my boyfriend and my cousin’s wife (and adorable baby!) on a pretty hoppin’ Sunday afternoon.

It was a little crowded, but nothing too crazy!

Whitebox is set up in such a way that you stand in line, order from the menu, take a number, and then your food is brought out to you. Simple enough! We took a minute to study the menu:

I also took a peek behind the counter; the pastries and everything looked tasty!

Even though a nice warm muffin or scone would have hit the spot, the chilaquiles were calling my name: crispy tostadas, shredded chicken, fried egg, avocado, queso fresco, guajillo pepper sauce, and crema? Sold!

My boyfriend ordered the biscuits and gravy, which consisted of buttermilk biscuits, peppery turkey sausage gravy, and a fried egg:

Try as I might, all of the photoshop trickery in the world can’t make biscuits and gravy look palatable. I really did try!

My cousin’s wife ordered the Whitebox Club: roasted turkey, bacon jam, swiss cheese, avocado, butter lettuce, herb mayo, and toasted rustic white bread. Whew! What a mouthful.

And the verdict? Well, I really liked my chilaquiles. They were super flavorful, with just the right amount of spice and seasoning to make my tastebuds do a little happy dance. I would definitely order this again!

My boyfriend and my cousin’s wife, on the other hand? They weren’t as happy. Neither one was too impressed with their meals. I didn’t sample either one (as hard as I try, I still can’t bring myself to eat biscuits and gravy!), so I can’t speak to the quality of their food.

However, I don’t think I’m willing to write off Whitebox yet, and if you’ve read my blog since the beginning, you know that’s a huge change in attitude for me. Remember my scathing review of the burger place which shall not be named? I don’t know if I’ve gotten soft in my old age, or if I just haven’t had an experience that bad since then, but I’m going to give this place another chance. When? I don’t know – I don’t tend to visit the same place twice unless I’m really crazy about it – but I do plan on coming back.

So here’s where I flip the question over to you: Have you been to Whitebox Eatery? What did you think?

See you next week!

I think you’ve learned there’s a reason professional reviewers make more than one trip to a restaurant before they write their article. Not criticizing you our your blog at all – just saying it’s hard to know everything with just one visit.
That said, that sandwich looks pretty bland and the b&g looks like a home fail. 😉
