Good morning and happy Friday!
A few weeks ago, Yelp St. Louis ran a Yelp Eats promotion. Many local restaurants offered many of their appetizers, entrees, and desserts at 50% off. Who loves a deal? This girl.
So when some friends wanted to check out Lola during Yelp Eats week, I was all over it.
Lola is a chic restaurant located in downtown St. Louis. It is spacious and loft-like, with super high ceilings, brick, and exposed ductwork. I loved it.
There was also a pretty cool jazz band (unpictured) playing that night. The volume of the music was a bit loud, but they sounded great!
I started off with a drink. Lola’s drink menu is extensive, with lots of yummy sounding libations. I settled on the Bogen; this drink contained coconut rum, pineapple juice, and iced tea!
It was so delicious and refreshing! Just what I needed on a hot summer evening.
I was really hungry, so I ordered an appetizer to start. Polenta Fries sounded interesting, so I went with those! These delicious “fries” came with garlic aioli dipping sauce, and spicy ketchup.
I wasn’t a fan of the garlic aioli, but the spicy ketchup rocked my socks! The polenta fries were hot, crispy, and delicious.
For my entrée, I ordered the Spanikopita Stuffed Portabella. This was a spinach and feta stuffed portabella wrapped in phyllo and served with a mixed field greens salad.
Oh my goodness. I’m pretty sure I’m going to have dreams about this baby! It was amazing. The phyllo was perfectly flaky and yielded easily to the spinach and feta filling. The portabella mushroom was juicy and flavorful. The entire dish was absolutely perfect. I wish I could have it again right this minute! Yum.
I was super full at this point, but I looked over the dessert menu and noticed blueberry bread pudding. You all know I’m a bread pudding fanatic, right? It goes without saying that I ordered this dish.
Unfortunately, I was really disappointed by this dish. It was really dry, despite the drizzle of blueberry sauce and whipped cream. I took one bite and couldn’t stomach it anymore. I was really sad – I totally wanted to love this dessert!
Service at Lola was attentive and friendly. And aside from the aforementioned loud music, I have no other complaints about Lola. What a great place and fun experience! I’m sure I’ll be back soon.
See you next week!
