Gooood morning! It’s been quite some time since I’ve had a proper blog post, and I’m back at it with a good one!
My stepdad’s birthday was a few weeks ago, and the family celebrated in the only way we know how – by eating!
My mom chose the restaurant – The Shack!
It’s located in Frontenac, and I was really excited to try it, as it’s been on my list for quite some time! I loved all of the writing on the wall. The Shack encourages you to go at it, with just a few rules:
So we made our mark!
My mom did the writing, since my handwriting definitely leaves a lot to be desired.
It was a pretty busy afternoon, so we had to wait a bit for a table. Good time for a family picture, right?
My grandparents are on the left, my mom and stepdad are on the right, and that’s me in the middle with my ridiculously goofy grin. I smile like a little kid, but I swear I’m 30 years old, y’all.
Soon enough, it was time to eat! The Shack serves breakfast, brunch, and lunch (no dinner…boo!!). I scoured the menu, and the boozy shakes caught my eye. Of course.
Even though I’m not a fan of Captain Crunch as a cereal, the boozy milkshake version of it sounded delicious. Rumchata, captain morgan, ice cream, and crushed captain crunch? Yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes.
It was rich, delicious, and probably contained more calories than anyone should consume in a day, much less in one meal. And I loved it. 🙂
Next up? Food! We were kind of all over the place with this one; some of us stuck with breakfast items, while others went more for the lunch thang.
My mom ordered the spicy chicken wings: a pound of wings in 7-spice buffalo sauce, served with your choice of bleu cheese or ranch.
I honestly don’t know if my mom went with the bleu cheese or ranch, since I happen to dislike both. Yes, there are actually things out there that I don’t eat! 😉 And yes, she loved the wings.
My boyfriend went with the Gringo Killer: chorizo, onion, bell peppers, green chili salsa, and cheese.
And this is where things get fuzzy. Can I blame the alcohol? Let’s blame the alcohol. Honestly, I just don’t remember because I’m writing this blog post weeks after the event, and my memory is horrible. I can’t decide which excuse sounds worse. Pick your favorite one, I guess? #ProfessionalFoodBloggerHere
Anyway, a few people ordered omelettes with hash browns and english muffins:
And someone else ordered eggs, hash browns, and bacon. That person was pretty awesome. Because BACON.
As for me? I went with the Big Crunch: texas french toast encrusted with corn flakes.
I make it my personal mission to choose the most unhealthy thing on the menu. Every time. It was delicious.
Oh, and our awesome waitress brought my stepdad a birthday pancake!
I’m pretty sure those are blueberries. How did I get a book deal again? #UnsolvedMysteries
Overall, our meal was great. I had a great time, the food was delicious, and my stepdad had a great time! Another successful family outing and foodie adventure to add to the books.
See you next week!
