Mission Taco

Happy Friday, party people! I hope everyone had a splendid week! As for me? Well…my week started off pretty good; I turned 30 years old on Monday! 🙂

But then it all went downhill pretty quickly. I’ll spare you all the uninteresting details, but I woke up with the flu on Tuesday, and I’ve been struggling through this week ever since.

However, thanks to lots of pho from Mai Lee, homemade Kombucha, and snuggles from my kitty, I’m feeling much better. Nyquil helps, too. 😉

And that brings us to today: Friday! Yay! Let’s talk about food, shall we?

A few weeks ago, I visited one of my fave Mexican places in the city: Mission Taco!

There are two locations, but I visited the spot in Soulard.

It’s super pretty on the inside!

And their menu is pretty rad, too. 🙂

Viva Tacocat!

I was joined by my awesome friend Christine, who will surely kill me for posting this picture:

You’re amazing even when you make crazy faces, chica. 🙂

We were having a Sunday Funday, so naturally, we started with drinks. I began with the Piscolada:

Pisco, dark rum, pineapple juice, and coconut syrup. So. Freaking. Delicious.

Christine had the Granddad’s Winter Remedy:

This had old granddad 114 bourbon and house spiced butter. Yes, butter. I had a sip, and all I could taste was butter. And then I proceeded to make fun of Christine for the rest of the afternoon for drinking this because I’m a great friend.

For food, we kept it simple. I ordered a few tacos:

From left to right: Carne Asada (flank steak, baby arugula, queso fresco, avocado serrano sauce), Roasted Duck (chile roasted duck, pork belly carnitas, avocado serrano sauce), and Portobello (portobello mushrooms, goat cheese, crispy onions, arugula, smashed black beans, huitlacoche aioli).

I had a hard time picking a favorite, because all three of them were fantastic!

Christine ordered the Chicken Flautas:

Crisp flour tortillas filled with shredded chicken, corn, chihuahua cheese, ancho barbecue sauce, and mexican crema. I tried some and this was also incredible. Holy schmoly, you guys.

After this round of food, we ordered another round of drinks. Christine had another one of her butter monstrosities (just kidding…it wasn’t that bad), and I had The Loop Rum Trolley:

Plantation 3 star rum, ancho reyes, lime juice, and vanilla syrup. It was spicy and delicious, and I may have ordered another one right after I sucked this one down. It was Sunday Funday, okay!?!

All in all, it was a great visit to Mission Taco, and it definitely won’t be my last. I highly recommend it! 🙂

Oh, and before I wrap up this week’s post, I have to tell you all about a super sweet event that’s coming up soon: Iron Fork! The Riverfront Times’ 9th Annual Iron Fork event will take place on Thursday, April 2nd, 2015 at Union Station, from 7pm – 10pm.

What can you expect at this event? Cocktails, fun, and food, of course! Lots and lots of food! Signature dishes from 40 hand-selected restaurants will be available. Some of the restaurants participating in the event include Juniper, Kakao Chocolate, Pappy’s Smokehouse, Quincy Street Bistro, and Mission Taco!

This year will be my first year attending the event, but it’s super popular; it sold out the past two years!

And because you all are awesome (and so is the RFT!), there’s an exclusive pre-sale where you can buy tickets before they go on sale to the general public on Monday. Lucky you 😉

Click here to buy the tickets! The promo code is IRONOTEP 🙂 Let me know if you’re going so I can hug you high five you in person! 🙂

See ya next week!
