Iron Barley Eating Establishment

6

Howdy, y’all! Hope this Friday is treating you well. Me? Well, I’m enjoying my last Friday as a 26 year old; my 27th birthday is next Thursday, February 2nd! Eeep! I’m so close to 30, guys…it’s scaring me just a bit. Smile

Anyway, on to the food!

I went to Iron Barley a few weeks ago for a yummy lunch with a friend.

I’ve been wanting to check out Iron Barley for quite a while. They were featured on the Food Network show Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives in 2008, and Man vs. Food in 2009! This is quite the famous St. Louis spot.

My friend ordered the peppered pork sandwich:

Delicious pulled pork smothered in barbecue sauce on a toasted bun. Does it get any better than this? I don’t think so! The barbecue sauce had a subtle apple flavor that I adored. It was served with a side of potato salad (delicious!) and a side of cole slaw (not so delicious…way too vinegar-y for me!).

As for me? Well, let me give you a hint:

Monte Cristo Double Dog!

Oh yeah, babe.

The Monte Cristo Double Dog consisted of two all-beef Chicago dogs, split and grilled, served on a toasted hot dog bun, which was slathered in sweet strawberry jam. As if that wasn’t awesome enough, they covered it with ooey gooey swiss cheese.

Oh.

My.

Goodness.

This was amazing! I absolutely loved the sweet and savory combination. I was a little afraid that it wouldn’t work, but it did. It absolutely did. I need to recreate this at home, STAT!

So the food was great, but what about the service? Honestly, I wasn’t a fan. We came on a quiet afternoon, so it wasn’t terribly busy. But I felt rushed by our waiter, and he wasn’t the friendliest guy on the planet. You work at a famous restaurant – the least you can do is crack a smile, right? Oh well.

Bad service aside, I definitely recommend Iron Barley. I’m already planning my trip back. I gotta have more of that Monte Cristo dog!

See you next Friday – it will be my first blog post as a 27 year old! Eeeeeeeeeep.

  • I keep wanting to try the Monte Cristo dog, but I’ve been chicken. I think I need to man up.

Man up, Blake! Let me know if you need moral support. I’m always down for another Cristo dog 🙂

How OLD am I to remember your BIRTH?! SO…Get outta here w/that “scared” biz. LOL! Happy Birthday in advance, Sweets. Go out, enjoy, have massive amounts of fun! Great review, btw, even though I don’t do dogs.
