Happy Day After Thanksgiving! I hope everyone’s holiday was amazing. As for me? Well…either I ate way too much, or I’m in my first trimester. Food baby, anyone?
Anyway, instead of a normal blog post, I figured I’d step outside the box today.
Yes, friends. Today is the day I tell you about a little trip that I took to Denny’s.
And I brought a few friends with me.
But let me start from the beginning! As you may or may not know, I’m a little obsessed with bread pudding. It’s my all-time favorite dessert. If it’s on the dessert menu, I have to order it. Yes, even if I’m ridiculously full. I’m a little fanatical about it, I know.
Anyway, my friend Sarah informed me that Denny’s had bread pudding french toast on their holiday menu.
Did you read that? Let me say it again for you: Bread Pudding French Toast. Wowza! I had to try this. I had to visit Denny’s. Nevermind the fact that I haven’t been to Denny’s in years. Nevermind the fact that I’m a self-proclaimed food snob (actually, I’m really not—I did blog about my trip to KFC, after all!) And nevermind the fact that Denny’s is terribly bad for you. Trans fats, anyone?
But I couldn’t let this holiday season come and go without trying the bread pudding french toast. And I knew I would be able to round up at least a few other friends to take the plunge with me. And thus, Fat & Nasty Night at Denny’s was born.
Although I knew exactly what I was going to order, I couldn’t help but take a peek at the other items on the menu. I could hardly believe some of the items that were offered on the menu!
There were Red Velvet Pancake Puppies,
A Milk & Cookies Shake,
And a Holiday Turkey Melt! This sucker was like Thanksgiving on a sandwich; it was basically a turkey sandwich with stuffing on it. A sandwich. With stuffing on it. My mind is still reeling from the idea of it!
I placed my order for bread pudding french toast, turkey bacon, and pumpkin pancakes. But first up? The milk and cookies shake. I couldn’t resist.
A shake made with sugar cookies? Yes, please. Calories? Who cares about calories! I slurped this down, and yes, it was totally delicious.
My friend Joselyn ordered the Red Velvet Pancake Puppies for the table to share.
They were dusted with powdered sugar and served with a cream cheese icing.
Action shots were taken:
They were actually really good! They tasted like a red velvet cake and a funnel cake had a baby. So good.
Another highlight? Joselyn’s grilled cheese sandwich. But this wasn’t just any grilled cheese – it was a grilled cheese with mozzarella cheese sticks stuffed in it!
Have I mentioned that Joselyn is my hero? Because she totally is. This was surprisingly delicious. Anyone care to guess how many calories are in this monstrosity? I don’t even want to think about it.
Finally, my food came out. The pumpkin pancakes and turkey bacon:
And the star of the show – bread pudding french toast!
So much food! I nibbled on everything. My expectations were low – I mean, it was Denny’s, afterall – but I was pleasantly surprised. The food wasn’t as terrible as I expected! My pancakes weren’t the best I’ve ever had – they were a little tough – but they were decent! And my turkey bacon was tasty as well.
The bread pudding french toast, however? Well…I guess you could say I was a little disappointed. I’m not sure what I was expecting with this. I suppose I was hoping for something a little softer and gooey-er? This was a little hard, and it really just tasted like plain old french toast. Not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but there was no discernable bread pudding flavor. Oh well…you can’t win ‘em all, right?
Service was awesome. Our waiter handled our party of 8 like a champ! And prices were super duper cheap. My whole meal was less than $10!
So there you have it. Fat & Nasty night at Denny’s was a success. I can’t say I’ll ever be back, but it was a lot of fun!
See you next week with a normal post
