Casa del Mar

I’m hitting some big milestones this year, friends.

I finally paid off 100% of my student loans.

Five years ago this month, I started this food blog.

And just last month, I celebrated my 30th birthday!

My birthday was on February 2nd, a Monday. After a long day at work, all I wanted to do was eat – okay, all I ever want to do is eat – but I wanted to eat with my family!

So I did.

We went to Casa del Mar – it’s a new-ish restaurant located in the Saint Louis Galleria. I hadn’t heard much about this restaurant, but I really wanted to try it!

The inside is quite beautiful.

I was ridiculously hungry, so when the waitress brought out chips and salsa, I went to town.

The chips were especially good!

We scoured the menu in search of good eats. It didn’t take long before we found a few appetizers that sounded good – sweet chili calamari was first on the list!

These delicious babies were covered in a cornmeal crust and tossed with sweet and spicy sauce. I fell in love!

Next up? Adobo Chicken Wings.

They were served with a side of ranch dressing and celery sticks. My two least favorite things on the planet, mind you.

But the wings were amazing! All was forgiven.

For my entree, I decided to go with two street tacos. Casa del Mar quite a few options: mole chicken, carnitas al pastor, asada steak, and blackened mahi are just a few. I decided to go with the lobster taco (served with lettuce, slaw, avocado and spicy mayo), and the crispy chicken taco (served with honey hot sauce, lettuce, cilantro dressing, and fruit salsa).

Yum! I was a big fan of the crispy chicken taco – the honey hot sauce was fab, and the fruit salsa was incredible! However, I wasn’t super crazy about the lobster taco. I’ve decided that from now on, the only seafood that I will eat in a taco is fish. Lobster does not belong in a taco, folks!

Service at Casa del Mar was very strange to say the least. I’m sure our waitress is a perfectly sweet woman, but her behavior was downright odd. She didn’t seem to know a lot about the menu, and whenever she did chat with us, it was in a barely audible whisper! I made up a story in my head about how she was in the witness protection program and had decided to only speak in a whisper in order to help conceal her true identity. I’m weird. But it made for an entertaining story for me!

Aside from our interesting waitress, the experience at Casa was pretty decent! I don’t know if I’d come back anytime soon, but I’m glad I was finally able to visit! And of course, spending an evening with my family is always fun.

See you next week!
