Good morning, and Happy Friday! It’s August! This summer is just zipping by, and thank goodness; it’s been a hot one!
Recently I was contacted by the owner of Ah!Zeefa Dips. The owner wanted to know if I wanted some samples of Ah!Zeefa dip to review for my blog.
Um…of course I do! Free samples and Stephanie go together like peas and carrots.
Before I could say Ah!Zeefa, I received these at my door:
Five yummy flavors:
Mild, Medium, Hot, Curry, and Garlic. Yum!
So what IS Ah!Zeefa, anyway?
Ah!Zeefa is a ready-to-eat lentil dip, made from certified organic Black Beluga Lentils. I was first introduced to lentils in college, and they’ve soon become one of my favorite foods. Great news, because lentils are a nutritional powerhouse! Some of the health benefits:
– Great source of cholesterol-lowering fiber
– Promotes good digestion and helps prevent digestive disorders such as IBS and diverticulosis
– Supplies slow burning, long lasting energy
– Helps improve cardiovascular functioning
– Provides antioxidants to help fight cancer and aging
Wowza! So now we know how good lentils are for us. But how do they taste as a dip?
Well…I loved it. This is what it looks like, by the way:
Don’t judge this book by its cover! These were good. Each flavor tasted a little different, but the texture of all of them was very creamy and rich. Let’s do a quick rundown of the flavors, with my opinion of each:
Mild – I like spicy things, so I wasn’t really crazy about this flavor. It had a very neutral lentil flavor, and would be perfect for those with little to no tolerance for spicy things.
Medium – very similar to the Mild flavor, with just a touch more spice.
Hot – I really liked this flavor! There was a definite kick, but certainly not super spicy by any stretch of the imagination.
Curry – This flavor had to grow on me. I didn’t like it at first, because the curry flavor wasn’t immediately present. However, it’s a slow building thing. After a few bites, I was in curry heaven!
Garlic – This flavor was my absolute favorite. I’m a garlic fanatic, and this didn’t disappoint! The garlic flavor was there, but it wasn’t so intense that I had garlic breath or anything like that.
So how did I eat my Ah!Zeefa! I experimented a bit. I had some on toast, which was tasty. It’s also very good with raw veggies as a dip. I couldn’t keep my carrot sticks away from this stuff!
However, my favorite combination was as follows: I toasted a slice of bread, spread it liberally with Ah!Zeefa, added two over-easy eggs on top, and smothered it in more Ah!Zeefa. Foodie heaven.
Other serving suggestions:
– Hard-boiled eggs
– Baked potatoes
– Grilled cheese sandwiches
– Stuffed into pita bread with lettuce and tomatoes
– Salads (thin down Ah!Zeefa with olive oil and lemon juice)
The possibilities are endless!
Thank you to Ah!Zeefa for allowing me to try this yummy product. See you next week!
